Joshua 22:20 - Remember what happened to Achan, the son of Zerah. Achan wasn’t faithful to the Lord. He took the things that had been set apart to the Lord in a special way to be destroyed. Didn’t the whole community of Israel experience the Lord’s anger? Achan wasn’t the only one who died because of his sin.”
Judges 20:9 - Here is what we’ll do to Gibeah. We’ll cast lots to tell us how to attack the city.
Judges 20:10 - We’ll take ten men out of every 100 from all the tribes of Israel. We’ll take 100 from every 1,000. We’ll take 1,000 from every 10,000. The men we take will get supplies for the army. Then the army will go to Gibeah in Benjamin. They’ll give Gibeah exactly what they should get because of the terrible thing they did in Israel.”
Esther 3:7 - The lot was cast in front of Haman. The lot was called Pur. It was cast in the first month of the 12th year that Xerxes was king. That month was called Nisan. The lot was cast to choose a day and a month. The month chosen was the 12th month. That month was called Adar.
Judges 7:13 - Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend about his dream. “I had a dream,” he was saying. “A round loaf of barley bread came rolling into the camp of Midian. It hit a tent with great force. The tent turned over and fell down flat.”
Judges 7:14 - His friend replied, “That can only be the sword of Gideon, the son of Joash. Gideon is from Israel. God has handed the Midianites over to him. He has given him the whole camp.”
Acts 1:23 - So they suggested the names of two men. One was Joseph, who was called Barsabbas. He was also called Justus. The other man was Matthias.
Acts 1:24 - Then the believers prayed. They said, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen.
Acts 1:25 - Show us who should take the place of Judas as an apostle. He gave up being an apostle to go where he belongs.”
Acts 1:26 - Then they cast lots. Matthias was chosen. So he was added to the 11 apostles.
Numbers 32:23 - “But what if you fail to do your duty? Then you will be sinning against the Lord. And you may be sure that your sin will be discovered. It will be brought out into the open.
1 Samuel 10:20 - Then Samuel had each tribe of Israel come forward. The tribe of Benjamin was chosen by casting lots.
1 Samuel 10:21 - Next he had the tribe of Benjamin come forward, family group by family group. Matri’s group was chosen. Finally Saul, the son of Kish, was chosen. But when people looked for him, they realized he wasn’t there.
Joshua 7:10 - The Lord said to Joshua, “Get up! What are you doing down there on your face?
Joshua 7:13 - “Go and set the people apart. Tell them, ‘Make yourselves pure. Get ready for tomorrow. Here is what the Lord, the God of Israel, wants you to do. He says, “People of Israel, you have kept some of the things that had been set apart to me to be destroyed. You can’t stand up against your enemies until you get rid of those things.”
Joshua 7:14 - “ ‘In the morning, come forward tribe by tribe. The tribe the Lord chooses will come forward group by group. The group the Lord chooses will come forward family by family. And the men in the family the Lord chooses will come forward one by one.
Joshua 7:15 - Whoever is caught with the things that had been set apart to the Lord will be destroyed by fire. Everything that belongs to that person will also be destroyed. He has broken the Lord’s covenant. He has done a very terrible thing in Israel!’ ”
Joshua 7:16 - Early the next morning Joshua had Israel come forward by tribes. The tribe of Judah was chosen.
Joshua 7:17 - The groups of Judah came forward. The group of Zerah was chosen. Joshua had the group of Zerah come forward by families. The family of Zimri was chosen.
Joshua 7:18 - He had their men come forward one by one. Achan was chosen. Achan was the son of Karmi. Karmi was the son of Zimri. And Zimri was the son of Zerah. Zerah was from the tribe of Judah.
1 Samuel 14:41 - Then Saul prayed to the Lord, the God of Israel. He said, “Why haven’t you answered your servant today? If I or my son Jonathan is to blame, answer with Urim. But if the Israelites are to blame, answer with Thummim.” Jonathan and Saul were chosen by casting lots. The other men were cleared of blame.
1 Samuel 14:42 - Saul said, “Cast the lot to find out whether I or my son Jonathan is to blame.” And Jonathan was chosen.
Proverbs 16:33 - Lots are cast into the lap to make decisions. But everything they decide comes from the Lord.
Isaiah 41:6 - They help one another. They say to one another, “Be strong!”
Isaiah 41:7 - One skilled worker makes a statue of a god. Another covers it with gold. The first worker says to the second, “You have done a good job.” Another worker smooths out the metal with a hammer. Still another gives the statue its final shape. The one who hammers says to the one who shapes, “You have done a good job.” Then they nail the statue down so it won’t fall over.
