  • Nehemiah 13:16 - The people from Tyre who lived there were bringing fish and all kinds of merchandise and were selling it on the Sabbath to the people of Judah – and in Jerusalem, of all places!
  • Nehemiah 13:17 - So I registered a complaint with the nobles of Judah, saying to them, “What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the Sabbath day?
  • Nehemiah 13:18 - Isn’t this the way your ancestors acted, causing our God to bring on them and on this city all this misfortune? And now you are causing even more wrath on Israel, profaning the Sabbath like this!”
  • Nehemiah 13:19 - When the evening shadows began to fall on the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I ordered the doors to be closed. I further directed that they were not to be opened until after the Sabbath. I positioned some of my young men at the gates so that no load could enter on the Sabbath day.
  • Nehemiah 13:20 - The traders and sellers of all kinds of merchandise spent the night outside Jerusalem once or twice.
  • Nehemiah 13:21 - But I warned them and said, “Why do you spend the night by the wall? If you repeat this, I will forcibly remove you!” From that time on they did not show up on the Sabbath.
  • Nehemiah 13:22 - Then I directed the Levites to purify themselves and come and guard the gates in order to keep the Sabbath day holy. For this please remember me, O my God, and have pity on me in keeping with your great love.
  • Isaiah 56:2 - The people who do this will be blessed, the people who commit themselves to obedience, who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it, who refrain from doing anything that is wrong.
  • Matthew 7:3 - Why do you see the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to see the beam of wood in your own?
  • Matthew 7:4 - Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye,’ while there is a beam in your own?
  • Matthew 7:5 - You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.
  • Mark 2:16 - When the experts in the law and the Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
  • Exodus 35:2 - In six days work may be done, but on the seventh day there must be a holy day for you, a Sabbath of complete rest to the Lord. Anyone who does work on it will be put to death.
  • Exodus 35:3 - You must not kindle a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day.”
  • Exodus 20:10 - but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God; on it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant, or your cattle, or the resident foreigner who is in your gates.
