John 20:1 - Early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb. It was still dark. She saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance.
John 20:2 - So she ran to Simon Peter and another disciple, the one Jesus loved. She said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb! We don’t know where they have put him!”
John 20:3 - So Peter and the other disciple started out for the tomb.
John 20:4 - Both of them were running. The other disciple ran faster than Peter. He reached the tomb first.
John 20:5 - He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there. But he did not go in.
John 20:6 - Then Simon Peter came along behind him. He went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there.
John 20:7 - He also saw the funeral cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place. It was separate from the linen.
John 20:8 - The disciple who had reached the tomb first also went inside. He saw and believed.
John 20:9 - They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.
John 20:10 - Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.
Luke 24:12 - But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. He bent over and saw the strips of linen lying by themselves. Then he went away, wondering what had happened.
