“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the sanctuary, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the sanctuary is bound by his oath.’Blind fools! But whoever takes an oath by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.’Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? Therefore, the one who takes an oath by the altar takes an oath by it and by everything on it.The one who takes an oath by the sanctuary takes an oath by it and by Him who dwells in it.And the one who takes an oath by heaven takes an oath by God’s throne and by Him who sits on it.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faith. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, yet gulp down a camel!

And there are many other customs they have received and keep, like the washing of cups, jugs, copper utensils, and dining couches.)Then the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him,“ Why don’t Your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders, instead of eating bread with ritually unclean hands?”He answered them,“ Isaiah prophesied correctly about you hypocrites, as it is written: These people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.They worship Me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commands of men.Disregarding the command of God, you keep the tradition of men.”He also said to them,“ You completely invalidate God’s command in order to maintain your tradition! For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother; and Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death. But you say,‘ If a man tells his father or mother: Whatever benefit you might have received from me is Corban’”( that is, a gift committed to the temple),“ you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. You revoke God’s word by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many other similar things.”
