  • 2 Samuel 17:8 - Hushai said moreover, Thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are chafed in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field; and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people.
  • 2 Samuel 17:9 - Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some other place: and it will come to pass, when some of them are fallen at the first, that whosoever heareth it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.
  • 2 Samuel 17:10 - And even he that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they that are with him are valiant men.
  • 2 Samuel 17:11 - But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.
  • 2 Samuel 17:12 - So shall we come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falleth on the ground; and of him and of all the men that are with him we will not leave so much as one.
  • 2 Samuel 17:13 - Moreover, if he be gotten into a city, then shall all Israel bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river, until there be not one small stone found there.
  • 2 Samuel 17:14 - And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For Jehovah had ordained to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that Jehovah might bring evil upon Absalom.

  • 2 Samuel 10:6 - And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.
  • 2 Samuel 10:7 - And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
  • 2 Samuel 10:8 - And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate: and the Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob, and the men of Tob and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.
  • 2 Samuel 10:9 - Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians:
  • 2 Samuel 10:10 - and the rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and he put them in array against the children of Ammon.
  • 2 Samuel 10:11 - And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.
  • 2 Samuel 10:12 - Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people, and for the cities of our God: and Jehovah do that which seemeth him good.
  • 2 Samuel 10:13 - So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.
  • 2 Samuel 10:14 - And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.
  • 2 Samuel 10:15 - And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.
  • 2 Samuel 10:16 - And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.
  • 2 Samuel 10:17 - And it was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.
  • 2 Samuel 10:18 - And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.
  • 2 Samuel 10:19 - And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.
