  • 1 Chronicles 25:1 - Moreover, David and the commanders of the army set apart for the service some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, who were to prophesy with lyres, harps, and cymbals; and the number of those who performed this service was:

  • Numbers 4:8 - And they shall spread over them a cloth of scarlet material, and cover the same with a covering of fine leather, and they shall insert its carrying poles.
  • Numbers 4:9 - Then they shall take a violet cloth and cover the lampstand for the light, along with its lamps, its tongs, its trays, and all its oil containers, by which they attend to it;
  • Numbers 4:10 - and they shall put it and all its utensils in a covering of fine leather, and put it on the carrying bars.
  • Numbers 4:11 - Over the golden altar they shall spread a violet cloth, and cover it with a covering of fine leather, and they shall insert its carrying poles;
  • Numbers 4:12 - and they shall take all the utensils of service, with which they serve in the sanctuary, and put them in a violet cloth and cover them with a covering of fine leather, and put them on the carrying bars.
  • Numbers 4:13 - Then they shall clean away the ashes from the altar, and spread a purple cloth over it.
  • Numbers 4:14 - They shall also put on it all its utensils by which they serve in connection with it: the firepans, the forks, shovels, and the basins, all the utensils of the altar; and they shall spread a cover of fine leather over it and insert its carrying poles.
  • Numbers 4:15 - When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy objects and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, when the camp is to set out, after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry them by the poles, so that they will not touch the holy objects and die. These are the things in the tent of meeting that the sons of Kohath are to carry.
  • Numbers 4:16 - “Now the responsibility of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest is the oil for the light, the fragrant incense, the continual grain offering, and the anointing oil—the responsibility of all the tabernacle and everything that is in it, with the sanctuary and its furnishings.”
  • Numbers 4:17 - Then the Lord spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
  • Numbers 4:18 - “Do not let the tribe of the families of the Kohathites be eliminated from among the Levites.
  • Numbers 4:19 - Rather, do this for them so that they will live and not die when they approach the most holy objects: Aaron and his sons shall go in and assign each of them to his work and to his load;
  • Numbers 4:20 - but they shall not come in to see the holy objects even for a moment, or they will die.”
  • Numbers 4:21 - Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
  • Numbers 4:22 - “Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers’ households, by their families;
  • Numbers 4:23 - from thirty years old and upward to fifty years old you shall count them: all who can enter to perform service, to do the work in the tent of meeting.
  • Numbers 4:24 - This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in carrying:
  • Numbers 4:25 - they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle and the tent of meeting with its covering and the covering of fine leather that is on top of it, and the curtain for the entrance of the tent of meeting,
  • Numbers 4:26 - and the curtains of the courtyard, the curtain for the entrance of the gate of the courtyard that is around the tabernacle and the altar, and their ropes and all the equipment for their service; and everything that is to be done by them, they shall perform.
  • Numbers 4:27 - All the service of the sons of the Gershonites, that is, all their loads and all their work, shall be performed at the command of Aaron and his sons; and you shall assign to them as a duty all their loads.
  • Numbers 4:28 - This is the service of the families of the sons of the Gershonites in the tent of meeting; and their duties shall be under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

  • Numbers 4:30 - from thirty years old and upward, even to fifty years old, you shall count them, everyone who can enter the service to do the work of the tent of meeting.

  • Numbers 4:32 - and the pillars around the courtyard and their bases, their pegs, and their ropes, with all their equipment and with all their service; and you shall assign by names of the men the items that each is to carry.

  • 1 Chronicles 23:9 - The sons of Shimei were Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:10 - The sons of Shimei were Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:11 - Jahath was the first and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons, so they became a father’s household, one group for duty.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:12 - The sons of Kohath were four in number: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:13 - The sons of Amram were Aaron and Moses. And Aaron was set apart to sanctify him as most holy, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the Lord, to serve Him and bless in His name forever.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:14 - But as for Moses, the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:15 - The sons of Moses were Gershom and Eliezer.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:16 - The son of Gershom was Shebuel the chief.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:17 - The son of Eliezer was Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons, but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

  • 1 Chronicles 23:19 - The sons of Hebron were Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

  • 1 Chronicles 23:21 - The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli were Eleazar and Kish.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:22 - Eleazar died and had no sons, but only daughters; so their relatives, the sons of Kish, took them as wives.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:23 - The sons of Mushi were three: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:24 - These were the sons of Levi according to their fathers’ households, the heads of the fathers’ households of those among them who were counted, in the number of names by their head count, doing the work for the service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:25 - For David said, “The Lord God of Israel has given rest to His people, and He dwells in Jerusalem forever.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:26 - Also, the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its utensils for its service.”
  • 1 Chronicles 23:27 - For by the last words of David, the sons of Levi were counted from twenty years old and upward.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:28 - For their office is to assist the sons of Aaron with the service of the house of the Lord, in the courtyards and in the chambers, and in the purification of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God,
  • 1 Chronicles 23:29 - and with the showbread, and the fine flour for a grain offering, and unleavened wafers, or what is baked in the pan or what is well-mixed, and all measures of volume and size.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:30 - They are to stand every morning to thank and to praise the Lord, and likewise at evening,
  • 1 Chronicles 23:31 - and to offer all burnt offerings to the Lord, on the Sabbaths, the new moons and the appointed festivals, in the number determined by the ordinance concerning them, continually before the Lord.
  • 1 Chronicles 23:32 - So they are to perform the duties of the tent of meeting, the holy place, and of assisting the sons of Aaron their relatives, for the service of the house of the Lord.
  • Numbers 3:23 - The families of the Gershonites were to camp behind the tabernacle westward,
  • Numbers 3:24 - and the leader of the fathers’ households of the Gershonites: Eliasaph the son of Lael.
