The Message - I’m laying this out as clearly as I can, even though you once knew all this well enough and shouldn’t need reminding. Here it is in brief: The Master saved a people out of the land of Egypt. Later he destroyed those who defected. And you know the story of the angels who didn’t stick to their post, abandoning it for other, darker missions. But they are now chained and jailed in a black hole until the great Judgment Day. Sodom and Gomorrah, which went to sexual rack and ruin along with the surrounding cities that acted just like them, are another example. Burning and burning and never burning up, they serve still as a stock warning.

2 Peter 3:1 - This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you,
1 Corinthians 10:1 - Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
1 Corinthians 10:2 - and were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
1 Corinthians 10:3 - and all ate the same spiritual food;
1 Corinthians 10:4 - and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:5 - However with most of them, God was not well pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
1 Corinthians 10:6 - Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
1 Corinthians 10:7 - Don’t be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”
1 Corinthians 10:8 - Let’s not commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell.
1 Corinthians 10:9 - Let’s not test Christ, as some of them tested, and perished by the serpents.
1 Corinthians 10:10 - Don’t grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer.
1 Corinthians 10:11 - Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.
1 Corinthians 10:12 - Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall.
Psalms 106:26 - Therefore he swore to them that he would overthrow them in the wilderness,
Deuteronomy 2:15 - Moreover Yahweh’s hand was against them, to destroy them from the middle of the camp, until they were consumed.
Deuteronomy 2:16 - So, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,
Numbers 14:22 - because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;
Numbers 14:23 - surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it.
Numbers 14:24 - But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him I will bring into the land into which he went. His offspring shall possess it.
Numbers 14:25 - Since the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley, tomorrow turn and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.”
Numbers 14:26 - Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
Numbers 14:27 - “How long shall I bear with this evil congregation that complain against me? I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel, which they complain against me.
Numbers 14:28 - Tell them, ‘As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.
Numbers 14:29 - Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were counted of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have complained against me,
Numbers 14:30 - surely you shall not come into the land concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
Numbers 14:31 - But I will bring your little ones that you said should be captured or killed in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.
Numbers 14:32 - But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
Numbers 14:33 - Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies are consumed in the wilderness.
Numbers 14:34 - After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.’
Numbers 14:35 - I, Yahweh, have spoken. I will surely do this to all this evil congregation who are gathered together against me. In this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.”
Numbers 14:36 - The men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned and made all the congregation to murmur against him by bringing up an evil report against the land,
Numbers 14:37 - even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before Yahweh.
Numbers 26:64 - But among these there was not a man of them who were counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.
Numbers 26:65 - For Yahweh had said of them, “They shall surely die in the wilderness.” There was not a man left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
