New Living Translation - The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.
The Message - The old plan was only a hint of the good things in the new plan. Since that old “law plan” wasn’t complete in itself, it couldn’t complete those who followed it. No matter how many sacrifices were offered year after year, they never added up to a complete solution. If they had, the worshipers would have gone blissfully on their way, no longer dragged down by their sins. But instead of removing awareness of sin, when those animal sacrifices were repeated over and over they actually heightened awareness and guilt. The plain fact is that bull and goat blood can’t get rid of sin. That is what is meant by this prophecy, put in the mouth of Christ: You don’t want sacrifices and offerings year after year; you’ve prepared a body for me for a sacrifice. It’s not fragrance and smoke from the altar that whet your appetite. So I said, “I’m here to do it your way, O God, the way it’s described in your Book.” When he said, “You don’t want sacrifices and offerings,” he was referring to practices according to the old plan. When he added, “I’m here to do it your way,” he set aside the first in order to enact the new plan—God’s way—by which we are made fit for God by the once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus.

Hebrews 10:11 - Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and often offering the same sacrifices which can never take away sins,
Hebrews 10:12 - but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God,
Hebrews 10:13 - from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.
Hebrews 10:14 - For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
Hebrews 10:15 - The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,
Hebrews 10:16 - “This is the covenant that I will make with them: ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’” then he says,
Hebrews 10:17 - “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.”
Hebrews 10:18 - Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
Hebrews 10:3 - But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins.
Hebrews 10:4 - For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.
Hebrews 9:25 - nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest enters into the holy place year by year with blood not his own,
Hebrews 9:8 - The Holy Spirit is indicating this, that the way into the Holy Place wasn’t yet revealed while the first tabernacle was still standing.
Hebrews 9:9 - This is a symbol of the present age, where gifts and sacrifices are offered that are incapable, concerning the conscience, of making the worshiper perfect,
Hebrews 9:23 - It was necessary therefore that the copies of the things in the heavens should be cleansed with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
Hebrews 9:11 - But Christ having come as a high priest of the coming good things, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation,
Colossians 2:17 - which are a shadow of the things to come; but the body is Christ’s.
Hebrews 7:18 - For there is an annulling of a foregoing commandment because of its weakness and uselessness
