  • 2 Chronicles 3:1 - Then Solomon began to build the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the site David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:2 - He began to build on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:3 - These are Solomon’s foundations for building God’s temple: the length was ninety feet, and the width thirty feet.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:4 - The portico, which was across the front extending across the width of the temple, was thirty feet wide; its height was thirty feet; he overlaid its inner surface with pure gold.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:5 - The larger room he paneled with cypress wood, overlaid with fine gold, and decorated with palm trees and chains.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:6 - He adorned the temple with precious stones for beauty, and the gold was the gold of Parvaim.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:7 - He overlaid the temple — the beams, the thresholds, its walls and doors — with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:8 - Then he made the most holy place; its length corresponded to the width of the temple, 30 feet, and its width was 30 feet. He overlaid it with forty-five thousand pounds of fine gold.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:9 - The weight of the nails was twenty ounces of gold, and he overlaid the ceiling with gold.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:10 - He made two cherubim of sculptured work, for the most holy place, and he overlaid them with gold.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:11 - The overall length of the wings of the cherubim was 30 feet: the wing of one was 7½ feet, touching the wall of the room; its other wing was 7½ feet, touching the wing of the other cherub.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:12 - The wing of the other cherub was 7½ feet, touching the wall of the room; its other wing was 7½ feet, reaching the wing of the other cherub.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:13 - The wingspan of these cherubim was 30 feet. They stood on their feet and faced the larger room.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:14 - He made the curtain of blue, purple, and crimson yarn and fine linen, and he wove cherubim into it.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:15 - In front of the temple he made two pillars, each 27 feet high. The capital on top of each was 7½ feet high.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:16 - He had made chainwork in the inner sanctuary and also put it on top of the pillars. He made a hundred pomegranates and fastened them into the chainwork.
  • 2 Chronicles 3:17 - Then he set up the pillars in front of the sanctuary, one on the right and one on the left. He named the one on the right Jachin and the one on the left Boaz.
  • Lamentations 2:7 - The Lord has rejected his altar, repudiated his sanctuary; he has handed the walls of her palaces over to the enemy. They have raised a shout in the house of the Lord as on the day of an appointed festival. ח Cheth
  • Ezra 3:12 - But many of the older priests, Levites, and family heads, who had seen the first temple, wept loudly when they saw the foundation of this temple, but many others shouted joyfully.
  • Ezekiel 7:22 - I will turn my face from them as they profane my treasured place. Violent men will enter it and profane it.
  • 2 Chronicles 33:4 - He built altars in the Lord’s temple, where the Lord had said, “Jerusalem is where my name will remain forever.”
  • 2 Chronicles 33:5 - He built altars to all the stars in the sky in both courtyards of the Lord’s temple.
  • 2 Chronicles 33:6 - He passed his sons through the fire in Ben Hinnom Valley. He practiced witchcraft, divination, and sorcery, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did a huge amount of evil in the Lord’s sight, angering him.
  • 2 Chronicles 33:7 - Manasseh set up a carved image of the idol, which he had made, in God’s temple that God had spoken about to David and his son Solomon: “I will establish my name forever in this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.
  • Haggai 2:3 - ‘Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Doesn’t it seem to you like nothing by comparison?
  • Lamentations 2:1 - How the Lord has overshadowed Daughter Zion with his anger! He has thrown down Israel’s glory from heaven to earth. He did not acknowledge his footstool in the day of his anger. ב Beth
  • 1 Chronicles 29:1 - Then King David said to all the assembly, “My son Solomon — God has chosen him alone — is young and inexperienced. The task is great because the building will not be built for a human but for the Lord God.
  • 1 Chronicles 29:2 - So to the best of my ability I’ve made provision for the house of my God: gold for the gold articles, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx, stones for mounting, antimony, stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and a great quantity of marble.
  • 2 Kings 21:7 - Manasseh set up the carved image of Asherah, which he made, in the temple that the Lord had spoken about to David and his son Solomon: “I will establish my name forever in this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.
  • Psalms 87:2 - The Lord loves Zion’s city gates more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

  • Jeremiah 7:14 - what I did to Shiloh I will do to the house that bears my name,  the house in which you trust, the place that I gave you and your ancestors.
  • 2 Kings 23:11 - He did away with the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun. They had been at the entrance of the Lord’s temple in the precincts by the chamber of Nathan-melech, the eunuch. He also burned the chariots of the sun.
  • 2 Kings 23:12 - The king tore down the altars that the kings of Judah had made on the roof of Ahaz’s upper chamber. He also tore down the altars that Manasseh had made in the two courtyards of the Lord’s temple. Then he smashed them there and threw their dust into the Kidron Valley.
  • 2 Kings 21:4 - He built altars in the Lord’s temple, where the Lord had said, “Jerusalem is where I will put my name.”
  • 2 Chronicles 36:14 - All the leaders of the priests and the people multiplied their unfaithful deeds, imitating all the detestable practices of the nations, and they defiled the Lord’s temple that he had consecrated in Jerusalem.

  • Ezekiel 8:9 - He said to me, “Go in and see the detestable, wicked acts they are committing here.”
  • Ezekiel 8:10 - I went in and looked, and there engraved all around the wall was every kind of abhorrent thing — crawling creatures and beasts — as well as all the idols of the house of Israel.
  • Jeremiah 7:30 - “For the Judeans have done what is evil in my sight.” This is the Lord’s declaration. “They have set up their abhorrent things in the house that bears my name in order to defile it.
  • Ezekiel 24:21 - Say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord God says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the desire of your heart. Also, the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.
