  • 1 Samuel 13:10 - And it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him.
  • 1 Samuel 13:11 - And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash;
  • 1 Samuel 13:12 - therefore said I, Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering.
  • 1 Samuel 13:13 - And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.
  • 1 Samuel 13:14 - But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee.
  • 2 Samuel 8:1 - And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them: and David took the bridle of the mother city out of the hand of the Philistines.
  • 2 Samuel 8:2 - And he smote Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. And the Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.
  • 2 Samuel 8:3 - David smote also Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his dominion at the River.
  • 2 Samuel 8:4 - And David took from him a thousand and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved of them for a hundred chariots.
  • 2 Samuel 8:5 - And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succor Hadadezer king of Zobah, David smote of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.
  • 2 Samuel 8:6 - Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought tribute. And Jehovah gave victory to David whithersoever he went.
  • 2 Samuel 8:7 - And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.
  • 2 Samuel 8:8 - And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.
  • 2 Samuel 8:9 - And when Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,
  • 2 Samuel 8:10 - then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:
  • 2 Samuel 8:11 - These also did king David dedicate unto Jehovah, with the silver and gold that he dedicated of all the nations which he subdued;
  • 2 Samuel 8:12 - of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.
  • 2 Samuel 8:13 - And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting the Syrians in the Valley of Salt, even eighteen thousand men.
  • 2 Samuel 8:14 - And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. And Jehovah gave victory to David whithersoever he went.
  • 2 Samuel 8:15 - And David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness unto all his people.
  • 2 Samuel 8:16 - And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;
  • 2 Samuel 8:17 - and Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, were priests; and Seraiah was scribe;
  • 2 Samuel 8:18 - and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were chief ministers.
  • 1 Samuel 17:1 - Now the Philistines gathered together their armies to battle; and they were gathered together at Socoh, which belongeth to Judah, and encamped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
  • 1 Samuel 17:2 - And Saul and the men of Israel were gathered together, and encamped in the vale of Elah, and set the battle in array against the Philistines.
  • 1 Samuel 17:3 - And the Philistines stood on the mountain on the one side, and Israel stood on the mountain on the other side: and there was a valley between them.
  • 1 Samuel 17:4 - And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
  • 1 Samuel 17:5 - And he had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was clad with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
  • 1 Samuel 17:6 - And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a javelin of brass between his shoulders.
  • 1 Samuel 17:7 - And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and his shield-bearer went before him.
  • 1 Samuel 17:8 - And he stood and cried unto the armies of Israel, and said unto them, Why are ye come out to set your battle in array? am not I a Philistine, and ye servants to Saul? choose you a man for you, and let him come down to me.
  • 1 Samuel 17:9 - If he be able to fight with me, and kill me, then will we be your servants; but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.
  • 1 Samuel 17:10 - And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together.
  • 1 Samuel 17:11 - And when Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.
  • 1 Samuel 17:12 - Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Beth-lehem-judah, whose name was Jesse; and he had eight sons: and the man was an old man in the days of Saul, stricken in years among men.
  • 1 Samuel 17:13 - And the three eldest sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
  • 1 Samuel 17:14 - And David was the youngest; and the three eldest followed Saul.
  • 1 Samuel 17:15 - Now David went to and fro from Saul to feed his father’s sheep at Beth-lehem.
  • 1 Samuel 17:16 - And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.
  • 1 Samuel 17:17 - And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched grain, and these ten loaves, and carry them quickly to the camp to thy brethren;
  • 1 Samuel 17:18 - and bring these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge.
  • 1 Samuel 17:19 - Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the vale of Elah, fighting with the Philistines.
  • 1 Samuel 17:20 - And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the place of the wagons, as the host which was going forth to the fight shouted for the battle.
  • 1 Samuel 17:21 - And Israel and the Philistines put the battle in array, army against army.
  • 1 Samuel 17:22 - And David left his baggage in the hand of the keeper of the baggage, and ran to the army, and came and saluted his brethren.
  • 1 Samuel 17:23 - And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the ranks of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them.
  • 1 Samuel 17:24 - And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
  • 1 Samuel 17:25 - And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father’s house free in Israel.
  • 1 Samuel 17:26 - And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?
  • 1 Samuel 17:27 - And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him.
  • 1 Samuel 17:28 - And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
  • 1 Samuel 17:29 - And David said, What have I now done? Is there not a cause?
  • 1 Samuel 17:30 - And he turned away from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.
  • 1 Samuel 17:31 - And when the words were heard which David spake, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.
  • 1 Samuel 17:32 - And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine.
  • 1 Samuel 17:33 - And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him; for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth.
  • 1 Samuel 17:34 - And David said unto Saul, Thy servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock,
  • 1 Samuel 17:35 - I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth; and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him.
  • 1 Samuel 17:36 - Thy servant smote both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God.
  • 1 Samuel 17:37 - And David said, Jehovah that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and Jehovah shall be with thee.
  • 1 Samuel 17:38 - And Saul clad David with his apparel, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head, and he clad him with a coat of mail.
  • 1 Samuel 17:39 - And David girded his sword upon his apparel, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
  • 1 Samuel 17:40 - And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the shepherd’s bag which he had, even in his wallet; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
  • 1 Samuel 17:41 - And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
  • 1 Samuel 17:42 - And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance.
  • 1 Samuel 17:43 - And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
  • 1 Samuel 17:44 - And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the birds of the heavens, and to the beasts of the field.
  • 1 Samuel 17:45 - Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a javelin: but I come to thee in the name of Jehovah of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
  • 1 Samuel 17:46 - This day will Jehovah deliver thee into my hand; and I will smite thee, and take thy head from off thee; and I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day unto the birds of the heavens, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
  • 1 Samuel 17:47 - and that all this assembly may know that Jehovah saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is Jehovah’s, and he will give you into our hand.
  • 1 Samuel 17:48 - And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.
  • 1 Samuel 17:49 - And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead; and the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell upon his face to the earth.
  • 1 Samuel 17:50 - So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
  • 1 Samuel 17:51 - Then David ran, and stood over the Philistine, and took his sword, and drew it out of the sheath thereof, and slew him, and cut off his head therewith. And when the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled.
  • 1 Samuel 17:52 - And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou comest to Gai, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
  • 1 Samuel 17:53 - And the children of Israel returned from chasing after the Philistines, and they plundered their camp.
  • 1 Samuel 17:54 - And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armor in his tent.
  • 1 Samuel 17:55 - And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
  • 1 Samuel 17:56 - And the king said, Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.
  • 1 Samuel 17:57 - And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
  • 1 Samuel 17:58 - And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.
  • Amos 1:6 - Thus saith Jehovah: For three transgressions of Gaza, yea, for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they carried away captive the whole people, to deliver them up to Edom:
  • Amos 1:7 - but I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
  • Amos 1:8 - And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord Jehovah.
  • Zephaniah 2:4 - For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation; they shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
  • Zephaniah 2:5 - Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea-coast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Jehovah is against you, O Canaan, the land of the Philistines; I will destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
  • Zephaniah 2:6 - And the sea-coast shall be pastures, with cottages for shepherds and folds for flocks.
  • Zephaniah 2:7 - And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed their flocks thereupon; in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening; for Jehovah their God will visit them, and bring back their captivity.
  • Joel 3:4 - Yea, and what are ye to me, O Tyre, and Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? will ye render me a recompense? and if ye recompense me, swiftly and speedily will I return your recompense upon your own head.
  • Joel 3:5 - Forasmuch as ye have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried into your temples my goodly precious things,
  • Joel 3:6 - and have sold the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem unto the sons of the Grecians, that ye may remove them far from their border;
  • Joel 3:7 - behold, I will stir them up out of the place whither ye have sold them, and will return your recompense upon your own head;
  • Joel 3:8 - and I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the children of Judah, and they shall sell them to the men of Sheba, to a nation far off: for Jehovah hath spoken it.
  • Joel 3:9 - Proclaim ye this among the nations; prepare war; stir up the mighty men; let all the men of war draw near, let them come up.
  • Joel 3:10 - Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning-hooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
  • Joel 3:11 - Haste ye, and come, all ye nations round about, and gather yourselves together: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O Jehovah.
  • Joel 3:12 - Let the nations bestir themselves, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat; for there will I sit to judge all the nations round about.
  • Joel 3:13 - Put ye in the sickle; for the harvest is ripe: come, tread ye; for the winepress is full, the vats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
  • Joel 3:14 - Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! for the day of Jehovah is near in the valley of decision.
  • Joel 3:15 - The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.
  • Joel 3:16 - And Jehovah will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but Jehovah will be a refuge unto his people, and a stronghold to the children of Israel.
  • Joel 3:17 - So shall ye know that I am Jehovah your God, dwelling in Zion my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.
  • Joel 3:18 - And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down sweet wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the brooks of Judah shall flow with waters; and a fountain shall come forth from the house of Jehovah, and shall water the valley of Shittim.
  • Joel 3:19 - Egypt shall be a desolation, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, for the violence done to the children of Judah, because they have shed innocent blood in their land.
  • Joel 3:20 - But Judah shall abide for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation.
  • Joel 3:21 - And I will cleanse their blood, that I have not cleansed: for Jehovah dwelleth in Zion.
  • Isaiah 9:12 - the Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
  • 1 Samuel 21:1 - Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?
  • 1 Samuel 21:2 - And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know anything of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed the young men to such and such a place.
  • 1 Samuel 21:3 - Now therefore what is under thy hand? give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatsoever there is present.
  • 1 Samuel 21:4 - And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.
  • 1 Samuel 21:5 - And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days; when I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey; how much more then to-day shall their vessels be holy?
  • 1 Samuel 21:6 - So the priest gave him holy bread; for there was no bread there but the showbread, that was taken from before Jehovah, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.
  • 1 Samuel 21:7 - Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before Jehovah; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chiefest of the herdsmen that belonged to Saul.
  • 1 Samuel 21:8 - And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thy hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.
  • 1 Samuel 21:9 - And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the vale of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it; for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.
  • 1 Samuel 21:10 - And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.
  • 1 Samuel 21:11 - And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, And David his ten thousands?
  • 1 Samuel 21:12 - And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
  • 1 Samuel 21:13 - And he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.
  • 1 Samuel 21:14 - Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad; wherefore then have ye brought him to me?
  • 1 Samuel 21:15 - Do I lack madmen, that ye have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?
  • Jeremiah 47:1 - The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
  • Jeremiah 47:2 - Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall become an overflowing stream, and shall overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and them that dwell therein; and the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
  • Jeremiah 47:3 - At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers look not back to their children for feebleness of hands;
  • Jeremiah 47:4 - because of the day that cometh to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remaineth: for Jehovah will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.
  • Jeremiah 47:5 - Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nought, the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
  • Jeremiah 47:6 - O thou sword of Jehovah, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard; rest, and be still.
  • Jeremiah 47:7 - How canst thou be quiet, seeing Jehovah hath given thee a charge? Against Ashkelon, and against the sea-shore, there hath he appointed it.
  • Judges 14:1 - And Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.
  • Judges 14:2 - And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
  • Judges 14:3 - Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
  • Judges 14:4 - But his father and his mother knew not that it was of Jehovah; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.
  • Judges 14:5 - Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
  • Judges 14:6 - And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid; and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
  • Judges 14:7 - And he went down, and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.
  • Judges 14:8 - And after a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.
  • Judges 14:9 - And he took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave unto them, and they did eat: but he told them not that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.
  • Judges 14:10 - And his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
  • Judges 14:11 - And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
  • Judges 14:12 - And Samson said unto them, Let me now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can declare it unto me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of raiment;
  • Judges 14:13 - but if ye cannot declare it unto me, then shall ye give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of raiment. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
  • Judges 14:14 - And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth food, And out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days declare the riddle.
  • Judges 14:15 - And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to impoverish us? is it not so?
  • Judges 14:16 - And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell thee?
  • 2 Chronicles 28:18 - The Philistines also had invaded the cities of the lowland, and of the South of Judah, and had taken Beth-shemesh, and Aijalon, and Gederoth, and Soco with the towns thereof, and Timnah with the towns thereof, Gimzo also and the towns thereof: and they dwelt there.
  • Jeremiah 25:20 - and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;
  • Isaiah 14:29 - Rejoice not, O Philistia, all of thee, because the rod that smote thee is broken; for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth an adder, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.
