  • Romans 13:1 - Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
  • Romans 13:2 - Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.
  • Romans 13:3 - For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.
  • Romans 13:4 - For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.
  • Romans 13:5 - Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.
  • Romans 13:6 - This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.
  • Nehemiah 9:38 - “In view of all this, we are making a binding agreement, putting it in writing, and our leaders, our Levites and our priests are affixing their seals to it.”
  • 1 Chronicles 11:3 - When all the elders of Israel had come to King David at Hebron, he made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.
  • 2 Chronicles 29:10 - Now I intend to make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger will turn away from us.
  • 1 Samuel 10:25 - Samuel explained to the people the rights and duties of kingship. He wrote them down on a scroll and deposited it before the Lord. Then Samuel dismissed the people to go to their own homes.
  • 2 Chronicles 15:12 - They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul.
  • 2 Chronicles 15:13 - All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.
  • 2 Chronicles 15:14 - They took an oath to the Lord with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.
  • Ezra 10:3 - Now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all these women and their children, in accordance with the counsel of my lord and of those who fear the commands of our God. Let it be done according to the Law.
  • Joshua 24:25 - On that day Joshua made a covenant for the people, and there at Shechem he reaffirmed for them decrees and laws.
  • 2 Chronicles 34:31 - The king stood by his pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord—to follow the Lord and keep his commands, statutes and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book.
