  • Jeremiah 16:19 - Then I said, “Lord, you give me strength and protect me. You are the one I can run to for safety when I am in trouble. Nations from all over the earth will come to you and say, ‘Our ancestors had nothing but false gods – worthless idols that could not help them at all.
  • 1 Kings 12:26 - Jeroboam then thought to himself: “Now the Davidic dynasty could regain the kingdom.
  • 1 Kings 12:27 - If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the Lord’s temple in Jerusalem, their loyalty could shift to their former master, King Rehoboam of Judah. They might kill me and return to King Rehoboam of Judah.”
  • 1 Kings 12:28 - After the king had consulted with his advisers, he made two golden calves. Then he said to the people, “It is too much trouble for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look, Israel, here are your gods who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”
  • 1 Kings 12:29 - He put one in Bethel and the other in Dan.
  • 1 Kings 12:30 - This caused Israel to sin; the people went to Bethel and Dan to worship the calves.
  • 1 Kings 12:31 - He built temples on the high places and appointed as priests people who were not Levites.
  • 1 Kings 12:32 - Jeroboam inaugurated a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival celebrated in Judah. On the altar in Bethel he offered sacrifices to the calves he had made. In Bethel he also appointed priests for the high places he had made.
  • 1 Kings 12:33 - On the fifteenth day of the eighth month (a date he had arbitrarily chosen) Jeroboam offered sacrifices on the altar he had made in Bethel. He inaugurated a festival for the Israelites and went up to the altar to offer sacrifices.
  • 1 Kings 13:33 - After this happened, Jeroboam still did not change his evil ways; he continued to appoint common people as priests at the high places. Anyone who wanted the job he consecrated as a priest.
  • 1 Kings 13:34 - This sin caused Jeroboam’s dynasty to come to an end and to be destroyed from the face of the earth.
  • 1 Kings 16:2 - “I raised you up from the dust and made you ruler over my people Israel. Yet you followed in Jeroboam’s footsteps and encouraged my people Israel to sin; their sins have made me angry.
  • Psalms 31:6 - I hate those who serve worthless idols, but I trust in the Lord.
  • Jeremiah 14:22 - Do any of the worthless idols of the nations cause rain to fall? Do the skies themselves send showers? Is it not you, O Lord our God, who does this? So we put our hopes in you because you alone do all this.”
  • Acts 14:15 - “Men, why are you doing these things? We too are men, with human natures just like you! We are proclaiming the good news to you, so that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them.
  • Jeremiah 10:3 - For the religion of these people is worthless. They cut down a tree in the forest, and a craftsman makes it into an idol with his tools.
  • Jeremiah 10:8 - The people of those nations are both stupid and foolish. Instruction from a wooden idol is worthless!
  • 1 Kings 16:13 - This happened because of all the sins which Baasha and his son Elah committed and which they made Israel commit. They angered the Lord God of Israel with their worthless idols.
  • 1 Kings 16:19 - This happened because of the sins he committed. He did evil in the sight of the Lord and followed in Jeroboam’s footsteps and encouraged Israel to continue sinning.
