  • The Message - But we’re not going to start demanding now what we’ve always had a perfect right to. Our decision all along has been to put up with anything rather than to get in the way or detract from the Message of Christ. All I’m concerned with right now is that you not use our decision to take advantage of others, depriving them of what is rightly theirs. You know, don’t you, that it’s always been taken for granted that those who work in the Temple live off the proceeds of the Temple, and that those who offer sacrifices at the altar eat their meals from what has been sacrificed? Along the same lines, the Master directed that those who spread the Message be supported by those who believe the Message.

  • 1 Thessalonians 2:6 - As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:7 - As apostles of Christ we certainly had a right to make some demands of you, but instead we were like children among you. Or we were like a mother feeding and caring for her own children.
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:8 - We loved you so much that we shared with you not only God’s Good News but our own lives, too.
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:9 - Don’t you remember, dear brothers and sisters, how hard we worked among you? Night and day we toiled to earn a living so that we would not be a burden to any of you as we preached God’s Good News to you.
  • 1 Corinthians 4:14 - I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children.
  • 1 Corinthians 4:15 - For even if you had ten thousand others to teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you.
  • 1 Corinthians 4:11 - Even now we go hungry and thirsty, and we don’t have enough clothes to keep warm. We are often beaten and have no home.
  • 1 Corinthians 4:12 - We work wearily with our own hands to earn our living. We bless those who curse us. We are patient with those who abuse us.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:2 - Even if others think I am not an apostle, I certainly am to you. You yourselves are proof that I am the Lord’s apostle.
  • Luke 11:52 - “What sorrow awaits you experts in religious law! For you remove the key to knowledge from the people. You don’t enter the Kingdom yourselves, and you prevent others from entering.”
  • 1 Corinthians 6:7 - Even to have such lawsuits with one another is a defeat for you. Why not just accept the injustice and leave it at that? Why not let yourselves be cheated?
  • Romans 15:22 - In fact, my visit to you has been delayed so long because I have been preaching in these places.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:7 - Was I wrong when I humbled myself and honored you by preaching God’s Good News to you without expecting anything in return?
  • 2 Corinthians 11:8 - I “robbed” other churches by accepting their contributions so I could serve you at no cost.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:9 - And when I was with you and didn’t have enough to live on, I did not become a financial burden to anyone. For the brothers who came from Macedonia brought me all that I needed. I have never been a burden to you, and I never will be.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:10 - As surely as the truth of Christ is in me, no one in all of Greece will ever stop me from boasting about this.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:15 - Yet I have never used any of these rights. And I am not writing this to suggest that I want to start now. In fact, I would rather die than lose my right to boast about preaching without charge.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:12 - But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours.
  • 1 Corinthians 9:18 - What then is my pay? It is the opportunity to preach the Good News without charging anyone. That’s why I never demand my rights when I preach the Good News.
