The Lord has given him over to the lion, which has mauled him and killed him, as the word of the Lord had warned him.”The prophet said to his sons,“ Saddle the donkey for me,” and they did so.Then he went out and found the body lying on the road, with the donkey and the lion standing beside it. The lion had neither eaten the body nor mauled the donkey. So the prophet picked up the body of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and brought it back to his own city to mourn for him and bury him. Then he laid the body in his own tomb, and they mourned over him and said,“ Alas, my brother!”After burying him, he said to his sons,“ When I die, bury me in the grave where the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. For the message he declared by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel and against all the shrines on the high places in the towns of Samaria will certainly come true.” (niv)

When Ben-Hadad asked,“ What did Elisha say to you?” Hazael replied,“ He told me that you would certainly recover.”But the next day he took a thick cloth, soaked it in water and spread it over the king’s face, so that he died. This is a wicked thing you have done.’”When he caught up with them, he repeated these words to them. But they said to him,“ Why does my lord say such things? Far be it from your servants to do anything like that!We even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the silver we found inside the mouths of our sacks. So why would we steal silver or gold from your master’s house? If any of your servants is found to have it, he will die; and the rest of us will become my lord’s slaves.”“ Very well, then,” he said,“ let it be as you say. Whoever is found to have it will become my slave; the rest of you will be free from blame.”Each of them quickly lowered his sack to the ground and opened it.Then the steward proceeded to search, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest.
