  • Isaiah 13:1-22
This is a message about Babylon that God revealed to Isaiah son of Amoz:On a bare hill raise a signal flag, shout to them, wave your hand, so they might enter the gates of the princes!I have given orders to my chosen soldiers; I have summoned the warriors through whom I will vent my anger, my boasting, arrogant ones. There is a loud noise on the mountains– it sounds like a large army! There is great commotion among the kingdoms– nations are being assembled! The LORD who commands armies is mustering forces for battle. They come from a distant land, from the horizon. It is the LORD with his instruments of judgment, coming to destroy the whole earth.Wail, for the LORD’s day of judgment is near; it comes with all the destructive power of the sovereign judge. For this reason all hands hang limp, every human heart loses its courage. They panic– cramps and pain seize hold of them like those of a woman who is straining to give birth. They look at one another in astonishment; their faces are flushed red.Look, the LORD’s day of judgment is coming; it is a day of cruelty and savage, raging anger, destroying the earth and annihilating its sinners.Indeed the stars in the sky and their constellations no longer give out their light; the sun is darkened as soon as it rises, and the moon does not shine.I will punish the world for its evil, and wicked people for their sin. I will put an end to the pride of the insolent, I will bring down the arrogance of tyrants.I will make human beings more scarce than pure gold, and people more scarce than gold from Ophir. So I will shake the heavens, and the earth will shake loose from its foundation, because of the fury of the LORD who commands armies, in the day he vents his raging anger.Like a frightened gazelle or a sheep with no shepherd, each will turn toward home, each will run to his homeland.Everyone who is caught will be stabbed; everyone who is seized will die by the sword.Their children will be smashed to pieces before their very eyes; their houses will be looted and their wives raped.Look, I am stirring up the Medes to attack them; they are not concerned about silver, nor are they interested in gold.Their arrows will cut young men to ribbons; they have no compassion on a person’s offspring, they will not look with pity on children.Babylon, the most admired of kingdoms, the Chaldeans’ source of honor and pride, will be destroyed by God just as Sodom and Gomorrah were.No one will live there again; no one will ever reside there again. No bedouin will camp there, no shepherds will rest their flocks there.Wild animals will rest there, the ruined houses will be full of hyenas. Ostriches will live there, wild goats will skip among the ruins.Wild dogs will yip in her ruined fortresses, jackals will yelp in the once-splendid palaces. Her time is almost up, her days will not be prolonged.

  • Jeremiah 46:1-28
The LORD spoke to Jeremiah about the nations. He spoke about Egypt and the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt which was encamped along the Euphrates River at Carchemish. Now this was the army that King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon defeated in the fourth year that Jehoiakim son of Josiah was ruling over Judah.“ Fall into ranks with your shields ready! Prepare to march into battle!Harness the horses to the chariots! Mount your horses! Put on your helmets and take your positions! Sharpen you spears! Put on your armor! What do I see?” says the LORD.“ The soldiers are terrified. They are retreating. They have been defeated. They are overcome with terror; they desert quickly without looking back. But even the swiftest cannot get away. Even the strongest cannot escape. There in the north by the Euphrates River they stumble and fall in defeat.“ Who is this that rises like the Nile, like its streams turbulent at flood stage?Egypt rises like the Nile, like its streams turbulent at flood stage. Egypt says,‘ I will arise and cover the earth. I will destroy cities and the people who inhabit them.’Go ahead and charge into battle, you horsemen! Drive furiously, you charioteers! Let the soldiers march out into battle, those from Ethiopia and Libya who carry shields, and those from Lydia who are armed with the bow.But that day belongs to the Lord God who rules over all. It is the day when he will pay back his enemies. His sword will devour them until its appetite is satisfied! It will drink their blood until it is full! For the Lord GOD who rules over all will offer them up as a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.Go up to Gilead and get medicinal ointment, you dear poor people of Egypt. But it will prove useless no matter how much medicine you use; there will be no healing for you.The nations will hear of your devastating defeat. your cries of distress will echo throughout the earth. In the panic of their flight one soldier will trip over another and both of them will fall down defeated.”The LORD spoke to the prophet Jeremiah about Nebuchadnezzar coming to attack the land of Egypt.“ Make an announcement throughout Egypt. Proclaim it in Migdol, Memphis, and Tahpanhes.‘ Take your positions and prepare to do battle. For the enemy army is destroying all the nations around you.’Why will your soldiers be defeated? They will not stand because I, the LORD, will thrust them down.I will make many stumble. They will fall over one another in their hurry to flee. They will say,‘ Get up! Let’s go back to our own people. Let’s go back to our homelands because the enemy is coming to destroy us.’There at home they will say,‘ Pharaoh king of Egypt is just a big noise! He has let the most opportune moment pass by.’I the King, whose name is the LORD who rules over all, swear this: I swear as surely as I live that a conqueror is coming. He will be as imposing as Mount Tabor is among the mountains, as Mount Carmel is against the backdrop of the sea.Pack your bags for exile, you inhabitants of poor dear Egypt. For Memphis will be laid waste. It will lie in ruins and be uninhabited.Egypt is like a beautiful young cow. But northern armies will attack her like swarms of stinging flies.Even her mercenaries will prove to be like pampered, well-fed calves. For they too will turn and run away. They will not stand their ground when the time for them to be destroyed comes, the time for them to be punished.Egypt will run away, hissing like a snake, as the enemy comes marching up in force. They will come against her with axes as if they were woodsmen chopping down trees. The population of Egypt is like a vast, impenetrable forest. But I, the LORD, affirm that the enemy will cut them down. For those who chop them down will be more numerous than locusts. They will be too numerous to count.Poor dear Egypt will be put to shame. She will be handed over to the people from the north.”The LORD God of Israel who rules over all says,“ I will punish Amon, the god of Thebes. I will punish Egypt, its gods, and its kings. I will punish Pharaoh and all who trust in him.I will hand them over to Nebuchadnezzar and his troops, who want to kill them. But later on, people will live in Egypt again as they did in former times. I, the LORD, affirm it!”“ You descendants of Jacob, my servants, do not be afraid; do not be terrified, people of Israel. For I will rescue you and your descendants from the faraway lands where you are captives. The descendants of Jacob will return to their land and enjoy peace. They will be secure and no one will terrify them.I, the LORD, tell you not to be afraid, you descendants of Jacob, my servant, for I am with you. Though I completely destroy all the nations where I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will indeed discipline you but only in due measure. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.”
  • Isaiah 45:4-5
For the sake of my servant Jacob, Israel, my chosen one, I call you by name and give you a title of respect, even though you do not recognize me.I am the LORD, I have no peer, there is no God but me. I arm you for battle, even though you do not recognize me.

  • Romans 10:12-14
For there is no distinction between the Jew and the Greek, for the same Lord is Lord of all, who richly blesses all who call on him.For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How are they to call on one they have not believed in? And how are they to believe in one they have not heard of? And how are they to hear without someone preaching to them?
  • Isaiah 42:25
So he poured out his fierce anger on them, along with the devastation of war. Its flames encircled them, but they did not realize it; it burned against them, but they did notice.
  • Jeremiah 25:29
For take note, I am already beginning to bring disaster on the city that I call my own. So how can you possibly avoid being punished? You will not go unpunished! For I am proclaiming war against all who live on the earth. I, the LORD who rules over all, affirm it!’
  • Revelation 16:1-21
Then I heard a loud voice from the temple declaring to the seven angels:“ Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls containing God’s wrath.”So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth. Then ugly and painful sores appeared on the people who had the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.Next, the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea and it turned into blood, like that of a corpse, and every living creature that was in the sea died. Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and the springs of water, and they turned into blood. Now I heard the angel of the waters saying:“ You are just– the one who is and who was, the Holy One– because you have passed these judgments, because they poured out the blood of your saints and prophets, so you have given them blood to drink. They got what they deserved!”Then I heard the altar reply,“ Yes, Lord God, the All- Powerful, your judgments are true and just!”Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was permitted to scorch people with fire. Thus people were scorched by the terrible heat, yet they blasphemed the name of God, who has ruling authority over these plagues, and they would not repent and give him glory. Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast so that darkness covered his kingdom, and people began to bite their tongues because of their pain. They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their sufferings and because of their sores, but nevertheless they still refused to repent of their deeds. Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates and dried up its water to prepare the way for the kings from the east. Then I saw three unclean spirits that looked like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of the demons performing signs who go out to the kings of the earth to bring them together for the battle that will take place on the great day of God, the All- Powerful.( Look! I will come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays alert and does not lose his clothes so that he will not have to walk around naked and his shameful condition be seen.)Now the spirits gathered the kings and their armies to the place that is called Armageddon in Hebrew. Finally the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air and a loud voice came out of the temple from the throne, saying:“ It is done!”Then there were flashes of lightning, roaring, and crashes of thunder, and there was a tremendous earthquake– an earthquake unequaled since humanity has been on the earth, so tremendous was that earthquake. The great city was split into three parts and the cities of the nations collapsed. So Babylon the great was remembered before God, and was given the cup filled with the wine made of God’s furious wrath.Every island fled away and no mountains could be found. And gigantic hailstones, weighing about a hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people, but they blasphemed God because of the plague of hail, since it was so horrendous.

  • Psalms 9:16-17
The LORD revealed himself; he accomplished justice; the wicked were ensnared by their own actions.( Higgaion. Selah)The wicked are turned back and sent to Sheol; this is the destiny of all the nations that ignore God,
  • Isaiah 21:1-17
Here is a message about the Desert by the Sea: Like strong winds blowing in the south, one invades from the desert, from a land that is feared.I have received a distressing message:“ The deceiver deceives, the destroyer destroys. Attack, you Elamites! Lay siege, you Medes! I will put an end to all the groaning!”For this reason my stomach churns; cramps overwhelm me like the contractions of a woman in labor. I am disturbed by what I hear, horrified by what I see.My heart palpitates, I shake in fear; the twilight I desired has brought me terror.Arrange the table, lay out the carpet, eat and drink! Get up, you officers, smear oil on the shields! For this is what the sovereign master has told me:“ Go, post a guard! He must report what he sees. When he sees chariots, teams of horses, riders on donkeys, riders on camels, he must be alert, very alert.”Then the guard cries out:“ On the watchtower, O sovereign master, I stand all day long; at my post I am stationed every night.Look what’s coming! A charioteer, a team of horses.” When questioned, he replies,“ Babylon has fallen, fallen! All the idols of her gods lie shattered on the ground!”O my downtrodden people, crushed like stalks on the threshing floor, what I have heard from the LORD who commands armies, the God of Israel, I have reported to you. Here is a message about Dumah: Someone calls to me from Seir,“ Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?”The watchman replies,“ Morning is coming, but then night. If you want to ask, ask; come back again.”Here is a message about Arabia: In the thicket of Arabia you spend the night, you Dedanite caravans.Bring out some water for the thirsty. You who live in the land of Tema, bring some food for the fugitives. For they flee from the swords– from the drawn sword and from the battle-ready bow and from the severity of the battle. For this is what the sovereign master has told me:“ Within exactly one year all the splendor of Kedar will come to an end.Just a handful of archers, the warriors of Kedar, will be left.” Indeed, the LORD God of Israel has spoken.
  • Isaiah 23:1-18
Here is a message about Tyre: Wail, you large ships, for the port is too devastated to enter! From the land of Cyprus this news is announced to them.Lament, you residents of the coast, you merchants of Sidon who travel over the sea, whose agents sail overthe deep waters! Grain from the Shihor region, crops grown near the Nile she receives; she is the trade center of the nations.Be ashamed, O Sidon, for the sea says this, O fortress of the sea:“ I have not gone into labor or given birth; I have not raised young men or brought up young women.”When the news reaches Egypt, they will be shaken by what has happened to Tyre.Travel to Tarshish! Wail, you residents of the coast! Is this really your boisterous city whose origins are in the distant past, and whose feet led her to a distant land to reside?Who planned this for royal Tyre, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are the dignitaries of the earth? The LORD who commands armies planned it– to dishonor the pride that comes from all her beauty, to humiliate all the dignitaries of the earth.Daughter Tarshish, travel back to your land, as one crosses the Nile; there is no longer any marketplace in Tyre. The LORD stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook kingdoms; he gave the order to destroy Canaan’s fortresses. He said,“ You will no longer celebrate, oppressed virgin daughter Sidon! Get up, travel to Cyprus, but you will find no relief there.”Look at the land of the Chaldeans, these people who have lost their identity! The Assyrians have made it a home for wild animals. They erected their siege towers, demolished its fortresses, and turned it into a heap of ruins.Wail, you large ships, for your fortress is destroyed! At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the typical life span of a king. At the end of seventy years Tyre will try to attract attention again, like the prostitute in the popular song:“ Take the harp, go through the city, forgotten prostitute! Play it well, play lots of songs, so you’ll be noticed!”At the end of seventy years the LORD will revive Tyre. She will start making money again by selling her services to all the earth’s kingdoms. Her profits and earnings will be set apart for the LORD. They will not be stored up or accumulated, for her profits will be given to those who live in the LORD’s presence and will be used to purchase large quantities of food and beautiful clothes.
  • Romans 1:28
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what should not be done.
