-
Isaiah 40:12-31
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand or marked off the heavens with the span of his hand? Who has gathered the dust of the earth in a measure or weighed the mountains on a balance and the hills on the scales?Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, or who gave him counsel?Who did he consult? Who gave him understanding and taught him the paths of justice? Who taught him knowledge and showed him the way of understanding?Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered as a speck of dust on the scales; he lifts up the islands like fine dust.Lebanon’s cedars are not enough for fuel, or its animals enough for a burnt offering. All the nations are as nothing before him; they are considered by him as empty nothingness. With whom will you compare God? What likeness will you set up for comparison with him?An idol?— something that a smelter casts and a metalworker plates with gold and makes silver chains for?A poor person contributes wood for a pedestal that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol that will not fall over.Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been declared to you from the beginning? Have you not considered the foundations of the earth?God is enthroned above the circle of the earth; its inhabitants are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like thin cloth and spreads them out like a tent to live in.He reduces princes to nothing and makes judges of the earth like a wasteland. They are barely planted, barely sown, their stem hardly takes root in the ground when he blows on them and they wither, and a whirlwind carries them away like stubble.“ To whom will you compare me, or who is my equal?” asks the Holy One.Look up and see! Who created these? He brings out the stars by number; he calls all of them by name. Because of his great power and strength, not one of them is missing.Jacob, why do you say, and Israel, why do you assert,“ My way is hidden from the LORD, and my claim is ignored by my God”?Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding. He gives strength to the faint and strengthens the powerless.Youths may become faint and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the LORD will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not become weary, they will walk and not faint.

This is my name forever; this is how I am to be remembered in every generation.
-
Exodus 34:5-7
The LORD came down in a cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed his name,“ the LORD.”The LORD passed in front of him and proclaimed: The LORD— the LORD is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. -
Job 38:4-41
Where were you when I established the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.Who fixed its dimensions? Certainly you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?What supports its foundations? Or who laid its cornerstonewhile the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?Who enclosed the sea behind doors when it burst from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and total darkness its blanket, when I determined its boundaries and put its bars and doors in place, when I declared,“ You may come this far, but no farther; your proud waves stop here”?Have you ever in your life commanded the morning or assigned the dawn its place,so it may seize the edges of the earth and shake the wicked out of it?The earth is changed as clay is by a seal; its hills stand out like the folds of a garment.Light is withheld from the wicked, and the arm raised in violence is broken.Have you traveled to the sources of the sea or walked in the depths of the oceans?Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Have you seen the gates of deep darkness?Have you comprehended the extent of the earth? Tell me, if you know all this.Where is the road to the home of light? Do you know where darkness lives,so you can lead it back to its border? Are you familiar with the paths to its home?Don’t you know? You were already born; you have lived so long!Have you entered the place where the snow is stored? Or have you seen the storehouses of hail, which I hold in reserve for times of trouble, for the day of warfare and battle? What road leads to the place where light is dispersed? Where is the source of the east wind that spreads across the earth?Who cuts a channel for the flooding rain or clears the way for lightning,to bring rain on an uninhabited land, on a desert with no human life,to satisfy the parched wasteland and cause the grass to sprout?Does the rain have a father? Who fathered the drops of dew?Whose womb did the ice come from? Who gave birth to the frost of heavenwhen water becomes as hard as stone, and the surface of the watery depths is frozen? Can you fasten the chains of the Pleiades or loosen the belt of Orion? Can you bring out the constellations in their season and lead the Bear and her cubs?Do you know the laws of heaven? Can you impose its authority on earth? Can you command the clouds so that a flood of water covers you?Can you send out lightning bolts, and they go? Do they report to you,“ Here we are”?Who put wisdom in the heart or gave the mind understanding?Who has the wisdom to number the clouds? Or who can tilt the water jars of heavenwhen the dust hardens like cast metal and the clods of dirt stick together? Can you hunt prey for a lioness or satisfy the appetite of young lionswhen they crouch in their dens and lie in wait within their lairs?Who provides the raven’s food when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?

Psalms 104:2-35
He wraps himself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, laying the beams of his palace on the waters above, making the clouds his chariot, walking on the wings of the wind, and making the winds his messengers, flames of fire his servants. He established the earth on its foundations; it will never be shaken. You covered it with the deep as if it were a garment; the water stood above the mountains. At your rebuke the water fled; at the sound of your thunder they hurried away—mountains rose and valleys sank— to the place you established for them. You set a boundary they cannot cross; they will never cover the earth again. He causes the springs to gush into the valleys; they flow between the mountains. They supply water for every wild beast; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. The birds of the sky live beside the springs; they make their voices heard among the foliage. He waters the mountains from his palace; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of your labor. He causes grass to grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, producing food from the earth, wine that makes human hearts glad— making his face shine with oil— and bread that sustains human hearts. The trees of the LORD flourish, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. There the birds make their nests; storks make their homes in the pine trees. The high mountains are for the wild goats; the cliffs are a refuge for hyraxes. He made the moon to mark the festivals; the sun knows when to set.You bring darkness, and it becomes night, when all the forest animals stir. The young lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God.The sun rises; they go back and lie down in their dens.Man goes out to his work and to his labor until evening. How countless are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Here is the sea, vast and wide, teeming with creatures beyond number— living things both large and small. There the ships move about, and Leviathan, which you formed to play there. All of them wait for you to give them their food at the right time. When you give it to them, they gather it; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your breath, they are created, and you renew the surface of the ground.May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works. He looks at the earth, and it trembles; he touches the mountains, and they pour out smoke.I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the LORD.May sinners vanish from the earth and wicked people be no more. My soul, bless the LORD! Hallelujah!
