He has made them an object of dread, horror, and ridicule, as you can see with your own eyes.Because of this, our fathers have been killed in battle, and our sons and daughters and wives have been captured.But now I will make a covenant with the Lord, the God of Israel, so that his fierce anger will turn away from us.My sons, do not neglect your duties any longer! The Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him, and to lead the people in worship and present offerings to him.”

Then I commanded the Levites to purify themselves and to guard the gates in order to preserve the holiness of the Sabbath. Remember this good deed also, O my God! Have compassion on me according to your great and unfailing love.

They were to take part in the joyous occasion with their songs of thanksgiving and with the music of cymbals, harps, and lyres.The singers were brought together from the region around Jerusalem and from the villages of the Netophathites.

“ Where did all this come from?” Hezekiah asked the priests and Levites.And Azariah the high priest, from the family of Zadok, replied,“ Since the people began bringing their gifts to the Lord’s Temple, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare. Now spend your time serving the Lord your God and his people Israel.Report for duty according to the family divisions of your ancestors, following the directions of King David of Israel and the directions of his son Solomon.“ Then stand in the sanctuary at the place appointed for your family division and help the families assigned to you as they bring their offerings to the Temple.Slaughter the Passover lambs, purify yourselves, and prepare to help those who come. Follow all the directions that the Lord gave through Moses.”
