And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and brought it to an end.TEKEL; thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.PERES; thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any whither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off,and cried out as they looked upon the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like the great city?And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
