    此事之經過、乃在約但河外之伯大尼如望授洗處。翌日、如望見耶穌來就。乃曰:『此除免世罪、天主之羔羊也!予嘗云後我而至、先我而成者、即斯人矣!渠非予所素識、惟予之來茲授洗、正為顯揚斯人於義塞之民耳。』如望又為之作證、曰:『予見聖神作鴿狀、自天而降、棲止其上。予雖未之素識、惟遣予授洗者曾誥予曰:「汝見聖神降臨、止於其身者、是即將以聖神授洗者也。」予既見之、爰證其為天主之聖子。』又次日、如望偕二徒立、見耶穌經過、注視之而告其徒曰:『爾其識之、天主之羔羊也!』二徒聞言、遂從耶穌;耶穌回顧、見其來從、問曰:『何求?』曰:『辣卞何居?』「辣卞」即夫子之謂也。對曰:『來觀。』二徒即往視其居;時已正申、當晚遂同宿。聞如望所言而從耶穌之二徒、其一即為西門、伯鐸祿之兄安得烈。安得烈先遇其弟西門、而告之曰:『吾儕已遇美使。』美使之為言、基督也。遂引西門謁耶穌、耶穌注目視之曰:『汝非若納之子西門乎?此後當稱爾為基法。』「基法」者伯鐸祿也。又次日、耶穌赴加利利、適遇斐理伯、諭之曰:『從予!』斐理伯者、百賽達人、安得烈伯鐸祿之同鄉也。斐理伯遇納大那、告之曰:『摩西書及諸先知所預言者、我儕今已遇之、即若瑟之子、納匝勒人耶穌是已。』納大那曰:『納匝勒焉有良產?』斐理伯曰:『盍來一觀。』耶穌見納大那來訪、指之曰:『此誠義塞人、心無詭譎者!』納大那曰:『汝何由知我?』耶穌曰:『斐理伯未招汝、汝憩於鳳果樹下時、予已見汝、』納大那曰:『辣卞誠天主之子、義塞之君也。』耶穌曰:『予第謂見汝於鳳果樹之下、而汝已起信耶?汝所睹將有大於斯者。』既又謂之曰:『我實語爾、爾曹將見上天洞開、而天主之神使升降於人子之上焉。』

    維時、施洗者如望宣道於猶太曠野中曰:『汝其悔悟、天國伊邇。』先知意灑雅所言:『曠野有人、揚聲而呼;為主備道、正直其途;』即斯人也。如望身披駝毛、腰束革帶、以蝗蟲野蜜為食。時耶路撒冷與猶太全國、以及約但河一帶之居民。群趨如望、自承其罪、而受洗於約但河中。如望見法利塞及撒杜責之徒、亦群來受洗、訓之曰:『蝮種、誰警爾以避將臨之怒耶?務宜進而結實、以副悔悟之心。毋思吾輩有亞伯漢為我祖先;蓋吾語爾、天主全能、即欲化此頑石為亞伯漢之子孫、亦易如反掌耳。方今斧斤已加於樹根、凡不結嘉實之樹、必伐而投諸火中。吾惟以水洗爾、用啟悔悟;然有後我者、威力遠超我上、吾雖為之執履、亦非所宜稱;彼將洗爾於聖神與靈火之中。厥手持箕、簸汰場禾、納麥於倉、而焚芻藁於不熄之火』。時耶穌自加利利至約但、來訪如望、欲受其洗。如望辭曰:『吾當受爾之洗、安可就我乎?』耶穌應曰:『茲姑許之、聊以盡義。』如望乃許之。耶穌甫自水出、諸天倏為洞開、見天主之神、化作鴿狀、降於其身;且有音發自天上曰:『是吾愛子、慰悅我心。』
