And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines. But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory. And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim. And David[ was] then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines[ was] then[ in] Bethlehem. And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which[ is] by the gate! And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that[ was] by the gate, and took[ it], and brought[ it] to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this:[ is not this] the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred,[ and] slew[ them], and had the name among three. Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the[ first] three. And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear. These[ things] did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the[ first] three. And David set him over his guard.Asahel the brother of Joab[ was] one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,Abiezer the Anethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,Heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite,Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, armourbearer to Joab the son of Zeruiah,Ira an Ithrite, Gareb an Ithrite,Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.

2 Samuel 12 1-2 Samuel 12 15
And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich[ man] had exceeding many flocks and herds:But the poor[ man] had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter. And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan,[ As] the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this[ thing] shall surely die:And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. And Nathan said to David, Thou[ art] the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if[ that had been] too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife[ to be] thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give[ them] unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.For thou didst[ it] secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also[ that is] born unto thee shall surely die.And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
