But Samuel said to Jesse,“ The Lord has not chosen these.”Then Samuel said to Jesse,“ Are these all the boys?” And he said,“ The youngest is still left, but behold, he is tending the sheep.” So Samuel said to Jesse,“ Send word and bring him; for we will not take our places at the table until he comes here.”So he sent word and brought him in. Now he was reddish, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said,“ Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

The Lord also declares to you that the Lord will make a house for you.When your days are finished and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from you, and I will establish his kingdom.He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he does wrong, I will discipline him with a rod of men and with strokes of sons of mankind,but My favor shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from you.Your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever.” ’ ”
